Music is universal language
Of course I have learnt North Indian Classical music, and have been playing harmonium for long time. Yes, I have done Gandhar Tuning, created a new harmonium with Hinge Brothers, accompanied many stalwarts, learnt from them.
Having done that I have also played in multiple Carnatic/Hindustani jugalbandis. During which I realized how vast Carnatic music was. Of course I am very clear about North Indian Classical Music. The clarity is that you think you know one percent of North Indian Classical music, when you actually know half percent.
So here you are. You know half percent of North Indian Classical, and you know squat nothing about Carnatic.
Then we had Dmitri Gaskin perform for us last night on harmonium, accordion and piano. And you realize you know nothing about Western Classical or Eastern European folk music. Dmitri unfurled a vast repertoire of Eastern European Jewish music and Bach.
So... what is conclusion? I don't know about others, my conclusions are clear.
- I still know very little
- I still can enjoy ALL types of music irrespective of my knowledge level
- I am happy just to be part of music
- Music is a universal language
